In addition to programs directly influencing the success of GAP's students, the agency has recently created a support and preventive program for students aged 10 to 14 and their families. The first implementation of HEADS UP! is a partnership with Cherokee Heights Elementary School in St. Paul. HEADS UP! targets young people who are exhibiting non-compliant/defiant and aggressive behaviors, drug use, delinquency, and/or gang involvement. HEADS UP!, supervised by two GAP staff members, involves one-to-one mentoring, weekly after-school support groups, home visits and/or counseling, court advocacy and extended-day and extended-year enrichment activities.
